THE GARDEN NOW

IT'S AUTUMN AT THE GARDEN

TIEMPO DE BAYAS Y HOJAS CAIDAS

| WOOD

The wood covers a surface area of 5.000 sq m2 in the northern part of the Garden and holds the most important trees to be found in the woodlands of the world. Following the winding path that meanders through this plot from East to West we can see both perennial specimens, like the stone pine or the Holm oak and, above all, deciduous trees like the Illinois walnut tree, the American oak or the paper mulberry tree. There is also a great variety of palm trees growing, from date palms to sabal palmetto and washingtonias. The ground cover, shaded by the trees, is carpeted by ferns, spineless butcher’s booms and spider plants.

A bust of the Botanist Simón de Rojas Clemente presides an esplanade, where visitors can sit on benches surrounded by privets, paper mulberries and fig trees.
