SUCCULENT PLANTS

On the north-eastern edge of the Garden, in a sunny spot measuring some 1,200 square metres 2, there is a collection of succulents that was begun at the end of the sixties. During the restoration that took place in the nineties, the plants were rearranged according to bio-geographic criteria, in such a way that some of the most important specimens from the warm dry deserts of Africa and America were placed according to continent. In the southern half we can find a selection of the former, specimens of the genus Aloe, aizoaceae, crasulaceae and of the succulent flora from the Canaries, like different species of Aeonium. While in the northern half there are mescal and cacti growing.

The Rosemary House also holds succulent plants that are more sensitive to low temperatures. They are divided into two organizational areas depending on their growth patterns: the front half holds the succulents with less extensive growth, like cactaceae, crasulaceae, aizoaceae and liliaceae; while in other half, at the back, there is a wide range of genera Mammillaria, which belong to the cactus family.
