RESEARCH | Biosystematics

Plant biosystematics is a science that studies the plant organism using very different approaches and with different objectives, but which share common ground. More classical approaches focus on the morphological, cytogenetic and biochemical traits. Recently, without excluding the aforementioned fields, additional topics have been embraced to include population, reproductive and molecular studies. These studies have always been aimed at interpreting evolutionary processes and seeking data from different scientific sources to estimate the kinship corresponding to biological processes that have led to the differentiation and speciation of organisms.

The research group carries out work related mainly to morphology, micro-morphology, cariology, reproductive biology and population studies. The results of such studies are often useful to develop more in-depth studies concerning the conservation biology of endangered plants.
