Abstract: Cactus is the fourth volume of the Botanical Monographs collection of the Botanic Garden of the University of Valencia, a book by the specialists Vicente Bueno and Jose Plumed that collects one of the most important collections of the Garden, the crass plants. Authentic survivors that inhabit mainly the deserts and have to endure extreme conditions of insolation and lack of water.

There are more than 600 species of succulent plants at the Botanic Garden, distributed along three zones. One interior, called "caseta del romaní", for the smaller ones, and two outside, right next door, for plants of American and African origin. But due to the great diversity and number of groups that collect this group, the publication has had to focus only on the most important family, Cactaceae, with 52 genera and more than 230 species.

The guide includes a general description of the cactus and a more detailed one about its different anatomical parts, as well as to treat its distribution, ecology, cultivation, uses, and a special chapter with the systematics of the family and the specimens that we can find at the Botanic. All this accompanied by descriptive cards by genres, images of great visual quality and a map to be able to locate them at the Garden.
